Attitude of Gratitude
Over the course of the year, I have worked on developing an attitude of gratitude. Why did I start doing this you ask? It finally hit me that I have nothing to complain about. I have food to eat, clean water to drink, a roof over my head, modern day conveniences that are oh so nice to be able to use everyday such as indoor plumbing, electricity, my car and all things that pertain to these faculties and a whole lot more that I looked passed every day. What do I have to complain about? Yes, I don’t have the newest car or the flooring in my house that I want but I do have a reliable vehicle that gets me from point A to point B. I do have a house that provides my family and I with protective shelter and a place where we are confrontable and feel at home. An attitude of gratitude allowed me to change my viewpoint and I am so grateful!
You have probably heard about creating a gratitude journal. Which is a great idea, but not one I can fit into my busy life. So instead of a journal when I find myself thinking “oh woe is me” I start to list all the things that I am grateful for that pertains to the task I am performing. For example, If I am having a rough day being a mom I will start saying to myself, “I am grateful that I can be a mom, I am grateful for their little smiles and their laughter. I am grateful that I can provide for my children. I am grateful that they are safe. I am grateful for their hugs. I am grateful for the times that they do obey. I am grateful that I can teach my child to choose the right.” You get the gist. As I am listing all that I am grateful for I feel myself become lighter and brighter. It brings clarity to how blessed my life really is and that allows my attitude to be one of pure gratitude. You can do this with anything you are struggling with such as laundry, carpooling, cooking dinner etc…
Matthew 6:21 states, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Allow you treasure to be that of an attitude of gratitude and see how your heart changes.
What is something you are grateful for today?
